Terms of Service
Last updated: August 25, 2026
Welcome to On Island, operated by Onisland.app LLC, a U.S. Virgin Islands limited liability company ("we", "our", "us"). On Island is a local business directory for the U.S. Virgin Islands. These Terms cover the On Island website and installable web app at onisland.app and the On Island apps for iOS and Android (together, the "service"). By using any of them you agree to these Terms.
1. Who can use On Island
You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you represent that a parent or guardian has reviewed these Terms.
2. Your account
Browsing the directory is free and does not require an account. To save listings, leave reviews, or report beach conditions you must create an account with a valid email and password. You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for activity that occurs under your account. When you choose a password we screen it against known data-breach lists and may refuse one that has appeared in a breach.
You can delete your account at any time — directly in the iOS and Android apps (Account → delete account), or by emailing support@onisland.app from the web. See our Privacy Policy for what deletion removes and what we must retain.
3. What we provide
On Island helps you discover local businesses, read reviews, and check the daily Island Brief (weather, tides, cruise crowds, beach conditions) and travel information (flights, ferries). Directory content such as hours, phone numbers, and photos is supplied by the businesses themselves. Brief and travel data comes from third-party sources (including NOAA, USGS, NDBC, Open-Meteo, AeroDataBox, CruiseMapper) and from locals who contribute beach reports. "Open now" indicators are calculated from the hours a business publishes, plus, for mobile services, an availability switch the owner controls.
We work to keep all of this accurate, but we make no guarantee that any of it is correct, current, or complete. Verify anything safety-critical with the source, and in an emergency always call 911 — On Island is not an emergency service.
4. Paid placements
Businesses pay a subscription to be listed, and the non-911 cells of the home-screen Quick Access strip may be paid monthly placements purchased by a business in that category. When no business has purchased a placement, we show a top-rated listing instead. The 911 cell is never for sale, and no business can pay to change its position in category or search results.
5. Reviews and beach reports
Reviews and beach reports are user-generated content. You may leave one review per business and edit it later; reviews are public and appear with your display name. Beach reports can be submitted by users who identify as locals. By submitting content you grant On Island a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to display it in the service. You agree not to post anything false, defamatory, harassing, hateful, illegal, or that infringes someone else's rights. We have no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. Content passes an automated profanity filter and can be flagged by other users; we review every report and act within 24 hours, removing the content and, where warranted, suspending the account that posted it. You can also block any user from your own view — their reviews and beach reports stop appearing for you, privately and reversibly. Content may be removed by our moderators for any reason. Businesses cannot pay us to remove or hide honest reviews.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to: scrape the service outside of normal browsing; impersonate another person; interfere with or overload the service; reverse-engineer the applications; use the directory to build a competing product; or use the service to violate any law.
7. Third-party services and links
The directory links to external sites (for example ferry, airline, and government resources) and is built on third-party services — Supabase (database, authentication, storage), Vercel (hosting), maps drawn by Mapbox on the website, Apple Maps in the iOS app and OpenFreeMap in the Android app, Braintree, a PayPal service (business payments), Resend (email), Sentry (error monitoring), Cloudflare Turnstile (bot protection), and others described in our Privacy Policy. Your use of external sites is governed by their own terms, and we are not responsible for third-party content.
8. Language
On Island is offered in English and Spanish. Translations are provided for convenience; if a translation ever conflicts with the English version of these Terms or of any policy, the English version controls.
9. No warranty
On Island is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that the information shown — including business hours, availability, prices, and conditions data — is accurate or current.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, On Island will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to USD $100 or the amount you paid us in the past 12 months, whichever is greater.
11. Suspension and termination
You can stop using On Island at any time. We can suspend or terminate your account — with the reason recorded — if you violate these Terms or if your use of the service harms us, our users, or third parties. Suspension blocks posting and account changes and signs you out of active sessions. We may also change or discontinue any part of the service.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the current version, and prior versions are versioned in our records. Continued use of On Island after a change means you accept the new Terms.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the U.S. Virgin Islands, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
